Electric Fires on Amazon & eBay:
What to Check

A fire built into a media wall is harder to replace once the wall is finished.

Five things to check
before you buy

1. No UK CE Certification

Most electric fires sold on Amazon and eBay are imported from Chinese manufacturers with no UK or EU CE certification. Without CE marking, an electric appliance has not been tested to UK safety standards. Fitting an uncertified appliance into your home — inside a wall — is a building regulations risk and can invalidate your home insurance.

2. No Real Warranty

Amazon sellers offer a "warranty" backed by a company with no UK presence, no engineers and no obligation. When the fire fails — and with fan heater units it's when, not if — raising a warranty claim against an overseas marketplace seller is practically impossible. Your recourse is Amazon's own refund system, which stops at the box. It does not cover the wall you built around it.

3. The Images Are CGI — Not Photos

Almost every electric fire listing on Amazon and eBay uses CGI renders — computer-generated images of what the product is supposed to look like. These do not reflect the actual product quality, glass finish or flame effect. When customers receive the product, it frequently looks nothing like the images. You cannot see it before buying. You cannot return it once it is fitted. This is by design.

4. Fan Heaters — Not Ceramic

Budget electric fires use fan heaters — a heating element and a fan blowing air across it. They are loud, inefficient and have a short lifespan. They heat the room like a hair dryer. Mayfair fires use PTC ceramic heating — a self-regulating ceramic element that costs less to run, runs silently and lasts significantly longer.

5. Installation information

Ask for the wall cutout size and a technical drawing your builder can work from. For our fires, both are on the product page. If your builder has a question, call or WhatsApp us on 01274 985738. Our own team can also do the whole installation.

Reboarding and replastering

If a fire fails after the wall is finished

The wall may have to be opened up to reach a faulty fire. Whether that work is covered depends on the warranty terms.

Mayfair Fires: 2-year on-site warranty. Our engineer visits your home and fixes it — at our cost. The wall stays untouched.
