Every Mayfair Fire is built with Black Mirror Edition glass as standard. Not as an upgrade. Not at extra cost. Standard on every model, every size.
What Is Black Mirror Glass?
Standard electric fire glass is clear, or lightly tinted. When the fire is switched off, you see straight into the interior — the motor, the mechanisms, the back panel. It can look cheap. It can look industrial.
Black Mirror glass is deep-tinted from the inside. When the fire is off, the glass appears as a pure, polished black mirror. The interior is completely hidden. It looks like a statement architectural feature rather than an appliance.
When the fire is switched on, the flames appear to float within deep, infinite darkness. The contrast between the pitch-black background and the vivid Ultra HD flames creates a depth that simply cannot be replicated with standard clear glass.
How Does It Compare to Competitors?
British Fires offer a "Black Edition" as a premium tier — it costs more, and you can only access it through a showroom. Evonic Fires also offer enhanced back panels on certain models, again at additional cost through their dealer network.
At Mayfair Fires, Black Mirror Edition glass is not a tier. It's not an upgrade. It's what every single Mayfair fire includes as standard — whether you're buying the Kensington 50 at £1,399 or the Signature 80 at £1,999.
3-Sided Panoramic Black Mirror
On our Panoramic ranges the Black Mirror glass wraps around three sides: the front and both side panels. The three Insert models have front-facing glass only.
When you view the fire from a slight angle — from the sofa, from the kitchen, from the hall — you see the same stunning black mirror effect and the same vivid flames. No dead zones. No ugly side panels.
Invisible When Off. Extraordinary When On.
The Black Mirror effect serves a dual purpose. During daylight or when entertaining without the fire, the glass surface reflects the room's light and décor beautifully — like a piece of architectural art on the wall. When the fire is on in the evening, the flames appear to emerge from a void of pure darkness.
Interior designers consistently note that the transition between the two states — the fire off and the fire on — is one of the most dramatic effects achievable in a modern living room.
